    Shelter

    Shelter is a housing advice charity, their website and helpline provide advice on a full range of housing issues, including: eviction, homelessness, repairs and tenancy deposits.

    Advice for Older People

    Information about housing options for older people is available on the ageUK website or by calling their helpline. This includes: adapting your home, sheltered housing, care homes, and getting support in your home.

    Finding Privately Rented Accommodation

    We recognise that for people on low income and who are claiming Housing Benefit it can be very difficult to find privately rented accommodation through high street letting agents. This page links to a number of websites where accommodation for people on low incomes might be found. There is also a section for renting with a pet.

    Join Housing Register

    Social Housing in Watford is access through a Choice Based Lettings Scheme whereby those who are have joined the Housing Register are assigned a priority band and can ‘bid’ for properties as they become available.

    Not everyone can join the Housing Register. You will need to have a housing need and will generally have to have lived in the Watford for five out of the last six years.

    New Hope

    New Hope provides accommodation and support to people who are homeless or vulnerably housed. This includes up to 60 beds in different types of accommodation as well as shower facilities, food and support at the Rough Sleeping Prevention Service

    National Residential Landlords Association

    The help Citizens Advice can give to landlords may be limited. There is information for landlords available from gov.uk (above).

    If you need more detailed help and advice you may wish to join the National Residential Landlords Association. Membership starts from £75 per year.

    Free advice on residential leasehold and park homes law. The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) is an independent body, and only advises leaseholders and park home owners. All advisers are legally qualified.
